about

My second year of making something every day is complete, and this album is a testament to that.
I didn't write quite as much music this year due largely to a lack of both instruments and time, but I like how I progressed throughout the year.

For example, compare "Donut Shop" with "Cool Beans" last year, or "Are You Angry?" with "Here In the Future". I've written so much more poetry this past year, and a good percentage of those are planned to be songs later down the road.

Here's to another great year!

Track Name: They Like What You Don't Like
When waking up in bed, no side is right.
When every single day begins a fight.
You have a hard time seeing eye to eye;
despite their valid point, you say goodbye.
One day we hope that peace would you befall,
but sadly you're without the wherewithal.

Every single person in the cosmos
isn't quite against your points of view.
If you take your head out of your butt,
maybe you'd see they've opinions too.
But you can't let them topple o'er your reich,
and you can't have them like what you don't like.

What happened to the art of debate?
Now only volume serves to make him great.
Being stubborn has become a virtue,
like changing your ideas will hurt you.
I'm not even asking for you to agree:
I just want a bit more sanity.

Every single person in the cosmos
isn't quite against your points of view.
If you take your head out of your butt,
maybe you'd see they've opinions too.
But you can't let them topple o'er your reich,
and you can't have them like what you don't like.
Track Name: New Horizons
A whole new portion of the sky;
another place that we ain't discovered.
Never know quite what we'll find;
many things that will need uncovered.

Now on Pluto, and whaddaya see?
Could it be glazed doughnuts? Or maybe another lifeform?
There's no telling quite what it'll be.
Could there be big mountains? Or maybe a giant ice storm.

And here we thought we would never know,
but here we are, gonna get enwisened.
So many things that we have to show;
really is a new horizon.

Now on Pluto, and whaddaya see?
Could it be glazed doughnuts? Or maybe another lifeform?
There's no telling quite what it'll be.
Could there be big mountains? Or maybe a giant ice storm.
Track Name: Crocodile Jim
Hello, my name is Marty,
and maybe you have seen
my username on Tumblr
is crocojim18.
Today is day 500,
I'll go out on a limb.
I'll tell you all the story
about Crocodile Jim.

Now little Jimmy was a cub,
crocodile kind,
raised with maybe too much love
to saturate his mind.
And while the other crocolets
were learning how to swim,
and eating too much chocolate,
where was little Jim?
Why, he was with the people.
They'd dance and they would sing.
They thought of him as equal,
they taught him everything.

He'd wear a little strawmade hat:
the good life, he'd defined.
But the only place that he was real
was in my little mind.
My 10-year-old-self-mind.

I really loved my poetry,
whole days that I'd devote.
And on this one occasion,
this is what I wrote.

Crocodile Jim
will see you swim
out there in the water.
You'll be caught by him
Crocodile Jim,
caught just like an otter.
With a snap of his jaws
you will be gone
disappear for a while.
But it's pretty sad
that you've been caught
By a hungry crocodile.

Everyday I make a thing
that sometimes you might see.
And you might not think much of it,
and I'd prob'ly agree.
But somewhere out there far ago,
nine years ago maybe,
a ten year old is smiling.
I'm proud to call him me.
Track Name: Goodbye Maggie
Goodbye Maggie
Oh, we’ll miss you so
And to the streets of NYC you go

Goodbye Maggie
With all the lives you touch
I know you know we love you just that much

Maggie, the best of luck
We wish you in New York
From Emily the artist
And I the language dork
You’ll reach those kids in Harlem
They’ll love you just like us
The world is in your arms and then
you’ll take it further thus

Goodbye Maggie
I don’t know what we’ll do
Please know we’ll keep the city warm for you

Goodbye Maggie
Just a pause til then
And maybe soon you’ll come to see us again

Good thing you know how books work
To see a new page turn
The little kids will need you
To help them as they learn
You’re fostering the future
And what better career
And when you are in trouble
We’re waiting for you here

Good Luck Maggie
Track Name: Out of Candy
Lousy kids.
Track Name: Program Hunter
My senses are numbing & my eyeballs are buzzing.
I'm done I'm done I'm done I'm done,
I'm so completely done.
My fingers are rubbing at my temples for running
at a thousand miles for half a day,
a day before my break's begun.

Before you disassemble
someone else's program,
please know what you are doing,
'cause otherwise you will
take forever learning.
You'll likely have to go and
find another person
who has a bit more skill.

I spent my time rushing & way too much fussing
to find the things I had to find
in two days worth of time.
My headache is humming 'cause I sat right here judging
how these bits and bytes can coalesce
into a paradigm.

Before you sit and wonder
how to even go about it,
try attacking and surveying
from a circuit's point of view.
You'll see so many pathways,
and in the moment doubt it,
but just keep on observing,
you'll learn more than you knew.
Track Name: Are You Angry?
Are you angry?
Are you upset?
What has happened?
Are you fine yet?

Tell me when you're okay so that I can be aware of that.
I'll let my guard down so that later we can chit-chat.

Baby, tell me
what can I do?
I should listen
closer to you.

I know I'm not attentive and I have a real bad habit
to pay attention like an over-stimulated rabbit.

My apologies,
you know I'll try my best
to be a better person
and help you not be so stressed.
Maybe someday soon,
I'll remember to
go through all the things
that I'm supposed to do,
and until then
what should I do?

I've been waiting;
it's been a while.
I'll try to not be
very hostile.

I should have noticed what was wrong and been a bit more aware,
what with me and so much else, we really were unfair.

I'm so sorry,
it's been a rough few,
but I believe in
a strong and tough you.

Please know your anger's valid; you're more than allowed,
but you're going through it and I am so proud.

My apologies,
you know I'll try my best
to be a better person
and help you not be so stressed.
Maybe someday soon,
I'll remember to
go through all the things
that I'm supposed to do,
and until then
what should I do? (What should I do?)
Track Name: Friendmaker 9000
This being lonely thing, it really sucks,
and I ain’t got no time to waste!
I’m sick and tired of my friends in flux!
I won’t care if you are not my taste.

But I do not have to worry anymore!
I’ve got this simple answer right in store!

I’ve got the
Friendmaker 9000,
making friends all left and right.
Friendmaker 9000
Making friends is not a fight!
Friendmaker 9000
It’s so easy, works so well!
Friendmaker 9000
Only time will tell.

I opened up the box and turned it on.
It made a hum and quickly he appeared.
I’m such an idiot, I’m such a pawn:
turns out the box is simply just a mirror.

There’s only so much that machines can do for me;
I haven’t figured out the recipe.

Don’t buy the
Friendmaker 9000
(some assembly is required).
Friendmaker 9000
My endorsement has expired.
Friendmaker 9000
It’s worth less than you’ll spend.
Friendmaker 9000
I still need a friend.
Track Name: Mayday!
Let's be distressed today,
like we were yesterday,
(it's Mayday!, it's Mayday!)
The ship is going down!
The iceberg's looming near,
I'm glad to have you here,
(don't panic!, don't panic!)
what luck to have you 'round!

SS Disaster in the Misadventure fleet:
an ending terrifies yet feels so bittersweet.

I think that we'll be fine
as long as we're in line,
(it's Mayday!, it's Mayday!)
we'll get a lifeboat soon.
A child in front of us,
the sailors grunt at us,
(we'll hurry, we'll hurry)
across the ocean strewn.

I guess we've learned to never have a boating trip,
keep on swimming, keep on swimming, keep on floating, keep on saying, keep on saying
MAY DAY
